Sweet Beach Treats
Go above and beyond flowers and candy for Valentine’s Day this year -- reconnect with a beach retreat in Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Fort Morgan or Perdido Key for Valentine’s Day. Connect to your loved one with the romantic backdrop of surf, sand and sunsets, and give the precious gift of time. Even sweeter: We’ll treat you to TWO FREE NIGHTS when you provide promo code 12VAL.

CONDOS: Buy 2 nights, get 2 nights free.
HOUSES: Buy 5 nights, get 2 nights free.
(Valid for vacation stays 2/12/12 - 2/19/12.)

What to do when you coast awhile: Are you a planner or spontaneous? Either way, we’ve got you covered with entertainment options listed on our Gulf Shores/Orange Beach Calendar of Events and Gulf Shores Music Calendar. We are your beach and concert connection.

Off the Beaten Path
The picturesque setting for the 4th annual BBQ & Blues Cook-off will be Heritage Park in Foley (adjacent to Hwy. 59) where a full day of fun (10 a.m.-6 p.m.) is planned for March 17. Regional teams who compete in the Alabama BBQ Trail join local restaurants in the competition for prizes and trophies. You can even join the judging with the People’s Choice award. Other categories for the competition include Best Ribs, Best Chicken, Best Sauce, Best Just Butts and Anything Butts, which includes exotic dishes, seafood and desserts all cooked on the grill.

Your entry fee of $10 includes a raffle ticket for prizes that include a 3-night vacation at the beach donated by Meyer Vacation Rentals, plus other donations of dining certificates and merchandise. All entry fee funds and proceeds from the Silent Auction benefit the South Baldwin Chamber Foundation, an education foundation for area schools.

What’s New
A few recently opened businesses afford you the opportunity to add a few new experiences to your list of things to do on your next beach vacation.

Dining   Joey’s North Shore Grill and Hula Hula Tiki Bar opened at a new location on Hwy. 59 north of the Intracoastal Waterway, across the highway from Target, on December 23, 2011. It is open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m., serving breakfast, lunch and dinner and providing live music nightly. The Shrimp Burger is a signature dish, along with the chef’s daily appetizer trio creations. Check out our music calendar to find out which bands you want to hear at the Hula Hula Tiki Bar during your visit.

Di Pomodoro Italian Cuisine in Gulf Shores offers homemade specialties, soup, pasta, salad and classic sandwiches. Located just north of the Intracoastal Waterway at 3645 Gulf Shores Pkwy. (Hwy. 59), this Italian restaurant already is popular with locals.

Bella Luna Pizzeria opened their newest location in Gulf Shores across the street from the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo at 1209 Gulf Shores Pkwy. (Hwy. 59). They offer a soup and salad bar, small plates, specialty pizzas and a build-your-own-pie option.

Sports   Pack your rackets for a workout on the tennis court at the recently opened George C. Meyer Tennis Center located on County Road 6 just north of the beach. This 5,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art tennis facility offers 18 lighted courts; 12 are hard surface and 6 are Rubico Hydro courts.

Spa       The Salon located in Orange Beach at 25405 Perdido Beach Blvd. (Hwy. 182) in the Winn-Dixie Shopping Center offers a salon, spa and barber shop for your convenience while on vacation. Some of your choices for pampering include Aromatherapy, Warm Stone Massage, Steamy Wonder Treatment and Deep South Massage, plus manicures and pedicures.
