Gulf Shores Winter Guest Events

Welcome To Your Winter Home!

Thursday, September 29, 2016

Winter guests vacationing with Meyer Vacation Rentals in 2017 will be treated to a unique opportunity not only to connect with old friends but also to make new ones during their time on the Alabama/Florida Gulf Coast.

At 10 a.m., CST, Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2016, registration opens for participation in more than 25 space-limited events organized exclusively for guests of Meyer Vacation Rentals and their friends.

Activities will be held throughout January and February 2017. Below is just a taste of the 25+ events being scheduled.

On Mondays, beginning on Jan. 9, craft workshops will be held in painting, beading and knitting.

On Feb. 4, winter guests can get together for a night of socializing fun and trivia. Meyer will sponsor several tables for teams to compete for fun prizes. Money raised from the event will be donated to benefit local libraries.

On Feb. 8, golfers of all skill levels will play in our annual golf tournament at Peninsula. A $45 entry fee includes golf, cart fees, range balls, a hamburger cookout and an awards celebration after the tournament.

On Fat Tuesday, Feb. 28, all winter guests are invited to gather in the Meyer headquarters courtyard for a prime viewing spot for the annual Gulf Shores Mardi Gras parade. Catch throws from the floats while enjoying hot coffee, doughnuts, beads andmoonpies!

The Alabama/Florida Gulf Coast is a lovely destination for the wintertime. With average high temperatures in January and February in the upper 50s and lower 60s, it makes perfect sense to break away from the cold and snow and winter in a spot where you can “Coast Awhile.”

The Alabama/Florida Gulf Coast offers lots of opportunities for outdoor exploration. Of course, there’s the beach, which is a perfect spot for walking. There are also hiking and biking trails, outlet and boutique shopping, restaurants and activities at The Wharf, new attractions like the new GulfQuest National Maritime Museum of the Gulf of Mexico, and so much more to do.

Meyer Vacation Rentals Winter Guest ActivitiesExclusive Activities For Meyer’s Winter Guests

Making the Gulf Coast even more delightful a winter destination are the activities and events planned especially for you.

This year, winter guest activities began in early January with a visit to the Hot Shop at the Coastal Arts Center of Orange Beach for a demonstration of glass blowing.

Other activities included a special “Meyer Day” at the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo, trips to the Wind Creek Casino in Atmore, special workshops (jewelry-making, nature photography, knitting and more), a golf tournament, a fashion show and ice cream social, and many more events. See photos HERE.

A total of 25 events were hosted exclusively for Meyer’s winter guests this past year.

A list of Meyer winter guest activities will be posted on this page in September, with registration for events opening Dec. 7. Events are limited to a certain number of participants (you are welcome to bring one or two friends even if they are not Meyer guests), so it is very important to register on Dec. 7 or as soon as possible thereafter.

There are numerous other activities to keep you entertained throughout the winter, including the Gulf Shores Winter Entertainment Series, fully equipped recreational centers in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach that are available for winter guests to use, and much more. Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Tourism even hosts a free “Welcome Center Showcasing and Lecture Series” with 30-minute lectures highlighting the Alabama Coastal Connection National Scenic Byway, as well as showcases open for two hours displaying a variety of local activities.

Winter Beach Property RentalsWe Appreciate Our Winter Guests

There’s no other vacation rental management company in the area that is more hospitable than Meyer.

Meyer Vacation Rentals offers many properties whose owners are delighted to offer a monthly rate during off-season months of October, November, December, January and February. A limited number of properties are now even available for the entire month of March for those guests who are also staying with us in February.

Rental House in the The RookeryExplore Beyond The Gulf

Many of the properties available for monthly rental are located Gulf front. If you prefer another type of view — Gulf view, Gulf side, Gulf oriented, waterfront or golf course oriented — plenty of options exist for that as well.

Vicki Fondrk and her husband Drew of Madison, Wis., spent the month of January with us and enjoyed their off-the-beach property as well as having the opportunity to fully explore the area. “It is incredibly peaceful here,” Vicki said of their winter locale of The Rookery. “We are right across the street from the beach, and have enjoyed taking walks and watching the sunset.”

Comments From Our Winter Guests

The FondrksThe Fondrks also said they enjoyed their fully furnished property. “After we reserved the property, we received an email sharing details about what to bring and what would be furnished. The place we are in was furnished with way more than we expected. We’re using the kitchen daily and have every possible utensil we could need. The house looks exactly like the website pictures, and it’s very clean. Everything feels new. We also have WiFi and a satellite dish, which is a special treat since we do not have a dish at home.”

Some of the areas the Fondrks have visited include trails at the Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge and the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail (rollerblading no less!). “One rainy day we spent at the Naval Aviation Museum. We have toured Fort Morgan and visited the Foley Model Railroad Museum. We’ve gone kayaking and tried our hand at disc golf at the Graham Creek Nature Preserve. We took the ferry over to Dauphin Island. And we’ve even checked out the local souvenir shops.”

The Fondrks took advantage of some of Meyer’s winter guest activities as well. “We went to the zoo, the glass-blowing demo and the photography workshop. These events are beyond anything we expected from a rental agency.”

The ZimmersCarol and Jerry Zimmer of Cincinnati spent 10 weeks at Palacio in Perdido Key as winter guests. They said they enjoy wintering on the Gulf Coast to break free from icy, snowy weather up north because it’s a manageable driving distance from their hometown and because they enjoy the local atmosphere and variety of activities.

“We love being able to winter here. The weather is fabulous, and we do not need coats,” Carol said. “This is our eighth year here.”

Jerry said he enjoys the laid-back lifestyle of the Alabama/Florida Gulf Coast. “This area is not as busy as the areas our friends winter in much farther south. We also enjoy the unique cuisine. There’s no hustle and bustle—there’s no hurry about anything.”

Carol agreed. “The lack of crowds is very attractive to us.”

When we talked to Carol and Jerry, they were headed out for a day of exploration. As a matter of fact, when they are wintering here, they walk the beach daily. “We have waked from the end of Johnson Beach all the way to Mobile Bay—88 miles. We did six miles a day. We enjoyed seeing the wreck of the Rachel (at Fort Morgan) and have seen many sea creatures along the way.”

The Zimmers also visited the zoo and attended the fashion show and glass-blowing demo. “And, every year, we go to the Meyer office in Gulf Shores for the coffee and doughnuts before the Mardi Gras parade.”
