Meyer Meltdown Challenge Helps Employees Drop A Colossal 300+ Pounds

Wednesday, April 13, 2016

GULF SHORES, Ala.—Combined, 24 Meyer Vacation Rentals team members lost a total of 306.1 pounds during the Meyer Meltdown weight loss challenge conducted in the first quarter of 2016.

The Meyer Meltdown weight loss challenge is one of several programs conducted throughout the year as part of Meyer’s on-site LiveWell corporate wellness program.

Available to all employees, the program is designed to promote healthy living and encourage Meyer employees and their family members to take charge of their health in order to be and stay healthy.

“We have such talented individuals who work extremely hard at providing our guests and owners with STAR Treatment. But hard work doesn’t end when the workday ends. Responsibilities for children, meals, spouses, churches and more continue, and so often we can lose sight of taking care of our own selves,” said Meyer Vacation Rentals President Michelle Nelson. “It is my hope that through LiveWell, we keep our teams’ own well-being at the top of mind and that we find a way to create friendly competition for healthy living at work from city league kickball teams to providing the resources for a personalized health plan by scheduling one-on-one sessions with our health coach.”

The LiveWell program also helps the company reduce lost productivity due to health-related absenteeism, Nelson added.

Employers are faced with reduced profitability due to lost productivity from an unhealthy workforce. Unhealthy employees underperform at work, are absent more often, experience more injuries, take longer to return to work when injured, and have greater risk factors for chronic illness, according to an annual health benefits survey conducted by the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation.

LiveWell Health Coach Jackie Smith works on site at Meyer, meeting with staff members one-on-one free of charge to discuss health and wellness activities, conduct group health challenges, and provide helpful nutritional and exercise advice.

“The Meyer Meltdown was a wonderful start in encouraging Meyer employees to keep up the healthy habits to reach their goals for the year,” Smith said. “We want to keep the LiveWell program and any challenges as fresh as possible. Our goal is to help Meyer employees be the healthiest they can be.”

With 32 pounds lost during the Meyer Meltdown challenge, Diane Skelton, property representative, was Meyer’s top female winner, while Nick Scozzafava, field engineer, was the top male winner for losing 18 pounds.

“LiveWell is not a one-stop shop; rather, it is Meyer’s outlet to connect our team members with healthy living techniques and solutions that fit their own lifestyles,” Nelson added.

Other health-related programs and benefits Meyer team members can take advantage of throughout the year include the Walking Works with LiveWell challenge, where staffers track miles and minutes walked in an online portal; reimbursement for gym memberships; and scheduled lunchtime group walks, among other benefits.
