Back Forty Beer is a Gadsden, Ala.-based whose team of talented individuals from all over the country propelled the company to Condé Nast Traveler’s list of Best Local Breweries in the United States and into retail outlets throughout the country.
Team Back Forty will be stationed not only in Tasting Village but also throughout the World Food Championships festival and associated special events as the championships’ first official craft beer partner.
Back Forty Beer quickly rose to success after the launch of its first offering, Naked Pig Pale Ale, in June 2009. Since that time, Southern Living named Back Forty one of the South’s Best Breweries, among receiving other accolades.
Today, the full scope of Back Forty’s offerings includes year-round and special choices such as Naked Pig Pale Ale, Truck Stop Honey Brown Ale, Freckle Belly IPA, Paw Paw’s Peach Wheat, Cart Barn Light, Peanut Butter Porter, Jalapango Double IPA and The Mandarin Chief. A beer vinegar is also available.
With Back Forty’s success, it opened the Test Kitchen in Gadsden, a full-service restaurant and brewery operating Wednesday through Sunday.
“Food has come to define our company and our market. We were foodies before we were brewers,” said Jason Wilson, founder of Back Forty. “Chefs, brewers, architects—we’re all the same. We’re craftsmen at the heart. We care so much about our product.”
Back Forty also hosts Pop-up Craft Beer Dinners at their Test Kitchen. Hand-selected Back Forty beers accompany five courses featuring meats and cheeses from livestock raised on the spent grains from the brewing process, and locally sourced produce from the family farmers in and around the Gadsden area.
Back Forty promotes food-and-beer pairings on every bottle sold, even if you aren’t in their Test Kitchen. Each bottle comes labeled with food pairing icons suggesting complementary cuisine: for example, Naked Pig Pale Ale with beef, pork or pizza, and Paw Paw’s Peach Wheat with seafood, chicken or ice cream.
“We’ve been watching the craft beer market for several years now in hopes of finding an ideal partner that will enable us to create super food pairings for competitors and an unforgettable craft beer garden for consumers,” said Mike McCloud, CEO of the World Food Championships, which will return to Orange Beach in 2018. “We strongly believe that Back Forty is going to be that ideal partner, especially considering their longstanding connection to all things food.”
Using the EAT methodology and a hybrid of sanctioned and celebrity judging processes in a tournament style competition, the World Food Championships will identify winners in each of nine key categories of competition. Once the champions of each category are crowned, they will meet at the Final Table for ultimate bragging rights and cash awards.
When the smoke clears and the Final Table judges have their say, one lucky competitor will be left standing as the World Food Champion.
Back Forty Marketing Director Brad Wilson and the rest of the team from Back Forty Beer stays with Meyer Vacation Rentals not only during the event but throughout the year whenever business travel or leisure activities brings him to the Alabama/Florida Gulf Coast. “We are proud to partner with Meyer for this and every trip we make to the Gulf Coast,” Wilson said.
