Lots of people enjoy a cold beer, a glass of wine or a specialty drink when on vacation on the beaches of the Alabama Gulf Coast. And there are plenty of restaurants and bars, both on and off the beach, throughout the area to explore.

Whether you’re on a “mom-cation” with your kids’ friends, a couples’ getaway, or a beach vacay with family and friends, a special social experience may be exactly what you need to round out your beach visit. Here are a few of our favorite spots to relax, reconnect with friends, and enjoy an adult beverage.

Maggie’s Bottle & Tail - Orange Beach

Located at the Cosmo’s dining and shopping complex on Canal Road in Orange Beach, Maggie’s Bottle & Tail looks like a quaint little gift shop when you walk in the door.

Stop at the counter and order a seasonal beer on tap, a can of specialty beer or a glass of wine you’ve always wanted to try. You can also order a charcuterie board or appetizers from Cosmo’s if you’re a little hungry.

Then, step into the parlor and get comfortable on a fluffy sofa or an oversized leather chair. Read your book, grab a board game to play, flip the TV on to your favorite sporting event, put a record on the turntable, or just zone out. Your server will bring your drinks and nibbles to you and may even share a story or two about the wine you’ve just ordered.

Hang out at Maggie’s as long as you like, and then walk a few steps across the deck to Cosmo’s Restaurant & Bar for dinner. Perhaps start your meal with the savory cheesecake, made with blue crab, apple smoked bacon, spinach and parmesan cheese blended with cream cheese and eggs and baked. Entrees include a variety of fresh Gulf seafood, steaks and surf and turf combinations.

Come back in the morning to Buzzcatz to enjoy the spot deemed as having the “Best Breakfast in Alabama.”

Red Or White Wine & Gourmet Center - Orange Beach

Also in Orange Beach, Red or White Wine & Gourmet Center at The Wharf is the place to go for old and new world wines sold by the bottle and glass and paired with a full tapas menu. Cool off as you dine indoors, or enjoy beautiful waterfront views outside.

Select your choice from more than a dozen wines available by the glass or a two-ounce taste. The wine menu changes frequently.

The menu ranges from red or white wine cheese boards to gourmet pizzas and other small bites like bacon wrapped dates stuffed with blueberry goat cheese.

After enjoying a few of these items, you might be too full for dinner. If not, Villaggio Grille, Ginny Lane Bar & Grill, YoHo Rum & Tacos and other restaurants are a short walk from Red or White within the same entertainment district. You can even take your wine to go as long as you remain within the entertainment district. Customers are welcome to shop and play while sipping on their favorite beverage! No off-premise alcohol or glass bottles are permitted in the district.

Big Beach Brewing Company - Gulf Shores

Big Beach Brewing Company in Gulf Shores is the local hotspot for locally brewed beer, fine wines and great conversation.

A Certified Small & Independent Craft Brewery, Big Beach is a fun place to gather with friends both indoors and outdoors. Inside, you’ll find lots of tables and chairs at the bar and scattered throughout the taproom.

The brewery is only licensed to brew beer in house, so no food is served. However, bring your favorite snacks prepared at your beach house or condo. Or, order something from Tacky Jacks Gulf Shores or one of the other restaurants in the Waterway District across the street. On weekends, you might even see a food truck or two stationed outside the brewery.

New beers are tapped every month or two, so stop in even if you’ve just visited.

Oh, and if you’ve brought your pup to the beach for a vacation in one of our dog-friendly vacation rentals, go ahead and bring him on a leash! This taproom is dog-friendly.

Can’t stay? Purchase pre-filled crowlers in the can to take back to the condo.

Sunset Cork Room - Gulf Shores

Frequently a Wine Spectator award winner, Sunset Cork Room is a favorite spot for friends to gather for a glass of wine, a gourmet meal and even live musical entertainment.

Sunset Cork Room is owned by two local women who had a vision to create a small, intimate, upscale fine dining establishment while keeping a local-friendly atmosphere.

The restaurant serves wines from around the world along with a handcrafted menu featuring local organic foods.

Yes, it’s off the beach at 225 East 16th Ave. in Gulf Shores, but it’s worth the very short trip. On any given week, the menu will contain wines from Argentina, France, Spain, Italy, California, Washington and Oregon. Wines change weekly.

The dinner menu is diverse and includes petite plates, soups and salads, side plates, pasta and large plates. Enjoy an appetizer of fried goat cheese followed by crab bisque and lamb lollypops or pan seared grouper.

With Nina Martin and Connie Nickerson at the helm, you just won’t go wrong at Sunset Cork Room.

C’est Le Vin At OWA - Foley

Located in Downtown OWA, C’est Le Vin Wine Bar & Shop is owned by a local family.

Here, you’ll find wine, spirits and craft beer along with charcuterie boards and other nibbles.

Attend a tasting event from a particular vineyard, stop in for a glass of wine and a cheese plate, or take home a few of your favorite bottles.

C’est Le Vin is the place to sip wine and share memories with your favorites!

Get away with your gal pals for some much-needed R&R and taste test something from one or all of these spots! A two-bedroom Gulf Shores condo would be a great choice for four. Or, bring a few more and choose a three- or four-bedroom house on the beach!
