It looks like something out of a movie scene—a quaint village of cargo containers along Perdido Beach Boulevard in Orange Beach. But when you step in the door, you’ll find those containers have been converted into an outdoor, courtyard/patio-style, Gulf-front restaurant.

Aptly named “The Gulf,” the restaurant is a favorite of locals and visitors alike not only for its unique design but also for its locally inspired food and beverages situated on the powder-soft, sugar-white sands of the Gulf of Mexico. It’s a great spot to hang out after a swim at the beach or a pleasure boat trip to the islands or even a fishing trip out in the Gulf.

Located in Orange Beach at Alabama Point, The Gulf invites you to dine, indulge in a cold beverage, and sit a spell at tables and comfortable beach chairs, sofas and lounges. It’s an ultra-casual restaurant that welcomes everyone who enjoys a little relaxation—right on the beach. And, the chefs serve some of the tastiest cuisine in the area.

The menu, although selective, is a revolving one and changes with the seasons, with only the freshest items, including seafood, available.

For example, at the time of this writing in July, we checked the menu and found a tuna poke bowl with heirloom tomatoes, cucumber, carrot, pineapple, seaweed, spicy mayo, house ponzu and white rice. There was also peel-and-eat shrimp by the pound. The shrimp tacos on the menu are made with citrus chili marinade, purple cabbage, mango corn salsa, cotija cheese, coconut sauce and cilantro. The blackened mahi-mahi tacos are dressed with salsa verde, pico de gallo, purple cabbage and cilantro.

There are always chef’s specials to enjoy, such as the fresh catch served fried, grilled or blackened as a salad or sandwich; a shrimp and crawfish roll; a crawfish po’boy; or a flank steak quesadilla.

Always on the menu are the gulf burger dressed with garlic aioli, a fish sandwich (this time it was grouper), a chicken sandwich, and a kids’ menu item such as grilled cheese or chicken tenders.

For those who would like to stop by for a quick adult beverage, the bar is a popular spot to hang out. Here, you’ll find a variety of cocktails crafted with the freshest ingredients as well as an array of beers.

With Perdido Key condos just down the beach road, they are a perfect spot to serve as home base to enjoy The Gulf and other local restaurants.
