The wonders of nature are visible along the Gulf Coast throughout the year. If you're interested in the environment, then vacation spots along this shore, such as Perdido Key, are ideal. Not only do you get a chance to enjoy the area's gorgeous beaches, but you can also indulge in several other activities that will bring you closer to nature - and in some instances, closer to the sea turtles that live along the shore.

Sea Turtles

Loggerhead sea turtles are a common sight in the Perdido Key area.Whether you're hiking through trails in Perdido Key or taking a leisurely stroll on the beach, you'll likely spend some time appreciating the beautiful surroundings that you are greeted with at every turn. If you're lucky, you'll even get to see sea turtles, as multiple species call the Gulf Coast home. Loggerhead sea turtles are the most prevalent in the area, although leatherback, Ridley and green sea turtles are also frequently seen in the summer months.

One of the best places to spot sea turtles is at Perdido Key State Park. Located just a short distance from many Perdido Key condos, this protected area is a safe habitat for turtles and several other animals. A visit to this park offers you and your family a chance to see the unique environment of the Gulf Coast up close - salty winds, sand dunes and swaying palms are common sights - as well as an opportunity to catch a glimpse of sea turtles

Visit During Nesting Season

While there's a good chance you can spot sea turtles no matter when you book a stay at a Perdido Key rental, visiting at different times of the year can expose you to some special occurrences. In the beginning of summer, female sea turtles return to the beach where they were born to create a nest and lay eggs for the next generation. Many of these beaches are located right in Perdido Key, so booking a trip for this time is a wonderful way to observe these animals.

Of course, all visitors need to exercise some caution when frolicking on the beach when these turtles are nesting. You shouldn't interact with these creatures or interfere with their actions in any way, but you can observe from a distance. Nesting season runs the length of summer and ends October 31, so be on the lookout when you visit Perdido Key.

Get Your Family In On The Fun

Part of the beauty of looking for sea turtles is that it is something everyone in your family can enjoy. Little kids will certainly get a thrill seeing these creatures go about their daily lives, and older travelers may appreciate the magic that goes along with observing turtles in their natural habitat. Whether you head to a park with the intention of watching these animals or just happen to run into one during your adventures in Perdido Key, the sea turtles can certainly add some excitement to a trip.
