Take an afternoon to visit the Sea, Sand & Stars nature center on the campus of Orange Beach Elementary School during your beach vacation this summer. The facility, which features a planetarium, an 800-foot boardwalk, a giant aquarium and a touch tank, will open to the public during several weeks in June and July.

Learn About The Sea, Sand & Stars In Orange Beach This Summer

The Sea, Sand & Stars Science & Nature Center, located on the campus of the Orange Beach Elementary School in Orange Beach, will open to the public from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Thursdays during the weeks of June 11, 18 and 25 and July 9, 16 and 23 in 2018.

Staff will be on hand to provide a rotating schedule for guided tours, night sky presentations and IMAX-type movies in the planetarium.

Sea, Sand & StarsReservations are not required but are highly recommended if you plan on taking the guided tour or have a group of 10 or more.

Walk-ins are welcome, and $5 per person donations are appreciated.

The Sea, Sand and Stars facility was designed as a hands-on venue for island school students to learn about the natural resources of the area.

The facility features a 5,800-gallon aquarium with a variety of Gulf fish and a 1,500-gallon touch tank.

In addition, the facility has a 38-seat planetarium with a Digitarium Alpha II Projector, the technology used in the best planetariums across the world.

A microscope laboratory allows students to get a closer look at marine life. Outside, an 800-foot boardwalk leads to four large outdoor gazebo classrooms where students learn about birds, plants, amphibians, reptiles and insects.

In partnership with WKRG TV, there is a weather station complete with measuring and monitoring technology.
