If you truly want to make next year an unforgettable one, book a vacation condo or beach house and celebrate new beginnings along the Gulf Coast of Alabama. Family-friendly events like Noon Year's Eve at LuLu's, The Wharf's New Year's Eve Bash and the Slip & Slide Polar Bear Dip - plus grown-up fun at The Hangout and Flora-Bama - are sure to make the last day of this year and first day of next year a time you won't forget.
Noon Year's Eve at LuLu's
The festivities at LuLu's in Gulf Shores get started early on December 31, when you and your entire family can arrive for a special celebration at - you guessed it - noon! Ideal for those who want to party but don't want to stay up until midnight, this light-hearted party features clowns, face painting, sand castle-building competitions and even a petting zoo. Join Lucy Buffet, sister of the legendary Jimmy Buffet, as she throws the best family-friendly party in town.
New Year's Eve Bash at The Wharf
Who doesn't love fireworks? That will be the main attraction at The Wharf, but there's plenty of other reasons to join the street party. Live music begins at 7 p.m. Restaurants will be offering special menus and/or discounts. An alcohol-free zone makes it great for families, and includes bungee jumping and ice skating. The evening is free, unless you choose to purchase a VIP package to enjoy unlimited beer or wine plus hors d'oeuvres and premium seating for the fireworks.
Flora-Bama New Year's Eve Bash
Adults seeking a great time should check out Flora-Bama's New Year's Eve Bash, which guarantees hours of merriment even after the clock strikes midnight. With live musical guests plus delicious food and beverages all night long, you'll be able to reel in the next 12 months in colorful fashion. It's time to start fresh, and because of Flora-Bama's sweet location, you can even stay up until the early hours of the morning to watch the sun rise on what's sure to be the best year yet.
But the New Year's Eve party barely ends, and a new one begins with the Polar Bear Dip at noon on New Year's Day. Many participants jump into the cold water dressed as Santa, New Year babies, clowns and other crazy costumes. You'll find young kids to great-grandparents and even Fido taking a quick dip, then collecting a souvenir T-shirt, enjoying the food, drinks and live music, and cheering on their favorite football teams seen on hi-def TVs.
Slip & Slide Polar Bear Dip
More crazy costumes can be found in the water at the Gulf Shores Public Beach. Sponsored by the local Kiwanis Club and true to its Slip & Slide Polar Bear Dip name, an inflatable slide helps you brave the chilly water by depositing you right in it. The noontime party continues with a free buffet at The Hangout for participants, and prizes for the best costumes. Family-friendly, the event was a huge success from its very first year.
New Year's Eve at The Hangout
Speaking of The Hangout, you'll be happy to know that they are also celebrating the new year in style. Music and dancing are the order of the evening, of course, as the soulful sounds of Kristy Lee rocks the house. The balloon drop at midnight will net a lucky participant free passes to the Hangout Music Fest in May. Champagne toast and appetizers are included in the admission fee.
So come to Alabama and Florida's Gulf Coast to celebrate and even slide your way into a spectacular new year!
