Are you ready to "hang out" in Gulf Shores? Each May, Hangout Music Festival draws thousands of people to the white sand beaches of Gulf Shores, Ala., to see major musical acts like Dr. Dog, Matisyahu, John Legend, The Flaming Lips and Tom Petty. Of course, all the other activities that surround this three-day annual festival are huge draws, too. If you're renting Gulf Shores or Orange Beach condos for Hangout Music Festival, you'll have easy access to all the fun. You probably already know to pack your swimsuit, sunglasses and laid back attitude, but what else will you need?
As you pack, you'll want to think about the weather and all the activities you'll be doing, but you should also consider the some of the rules and regulations of the event so you know what you should leave at home when you head to the Gulf Coast. Here are some packing tips to help you enjoy Hangout Music Festival to the fullest!
Who can come?
Everyone is welcome to enjoy the tunes and tropical atmosphere at Hangout - even kids! If you've got younger members of the family, remember they get in for free with a ticket-holding adult if they are under 10 years old. However, make sure you have enough adults to go around - the festival wants kids to have fun, but can't admit more than two children per adult ticket. That means no more than four children per family.
What will I need?
In addition to your sunny disposition, you'll want to bring (or wear) your bathing suit and sunglasses. Not only can you hang out on the beach all day, but one of the fun features of Hangout Music Festival is the massive water slide that you'll definitely want to take at least a few rides on over the course of the weekend. Bring blankets and beach towels to sit on as you chill in the sun and wait for the next act to come on stage. If you're bringing kids, you can also wheel in a stroller or wagon. Of course, all that sitting in the sun means you'll want to have plenty of sunscreen. The bands will be more enjoyable tomorrow with the right sun protection today!
What should I leave at home?
Hangout's general policy is "be nice, or go home!" You definitely don't want to bring a bad attitude or any weapons, illegal substances or alcohol, but there are some less obvious items you should save for another beach trip, too. Kites, skateboards, umbrellas, beach chairs and coolers are all prohibited, as are tents and carts. There will be plenty of food and drink to enjoy at the festival, so leave outside munchies at home and don't bring any glass containers. However, there will be water stations to fill your empty plastic containers. Prohibited items will be confiscated and not returned, so take a look through your beach bag before you leave your Gulf Shores beach house!
