Award-Winning Winter Entertainment In Gulf Shores

The 29th edition of the Gulf Shores Entertainment Series will feature 12 shows from six different acts ranging from Grammy Award winners and multi-platinum artists to tribute bands and spectacular performances. Performances will be held at the Erie H. Meyer Civic Center in Gulf Shores.

Beginnings - Jan. 18 & 19 | 7 p.m.
Comprised of intellectual musical talent, Beginnings was born in 2002 out of love and respect for the music of one of the greatest American rock bands of all time—Chicago. Beginnings will kick off the Entertainment Series playing tribute to Chicago’s songbook, which spans more than 40 years and includes five No. 1 albums and 20 Top 10 hits.

Live From Nashville - Jan. 25 & 26
Fully costumed and choreographed, Live from Nashville is a spectacular production featuring 12 musicians, singers and dancers showcasing fancy footwork, phenomenal fiddling and top-flight vocals designed to celebrate a century of celebrities and treasured songs from Music City.

Dukes Of Dixieland - Feb. 1 & 2
This group plays New Orleans jazz music, from Dr. John and Fats Domino to Huey Smith and Louis Prima, as well as original songs. Each member is an accomplished musician with a master’s degree in music. The team has produced 26 albums and three PBS TV shows: “New Orleans Pops,” “Salute to Jelly Roll Morton” and “Celebrating Satchmo.” Performing only 30 dates a year, the group plays a dinner cruise for 45 weeks a year, seven nights a week on the Steamboat Natchez in New Orleans.

Diane Schuur - Feb. 15 & 16
Regarded as one of contemporary jazz’s leading vocalists, Diane Schuur was born blind and gifted with perfect pitch. She taught herself to play piano by ear. Her distinguished recording career spans three decades and includes two Grammy Awards as well as three additional Grammy nominations. Her musical collaborations include Barry Manilow, B.B. King and Ray Charles. She holds numerous No. 1 Billboard Chart recordings including “Pure Schuur” and “Heart to Heart” with B.B. King.

Women Of Ireland – Feb. 22 & 23
Combining Ireland’s tradition of music, song and dance, this all-female production of Ireland’s leading female performers includes vocalists, fiddle players, a principal dancer and up to 30 other performers. The common theme inherent in all performances is the presentation of the most revered qualities of Ireland’s ethnic music, which will be transported from the Irish fireside to the international concert hall platform. Special significance will be placed on depicting the pure qualities of Irish music in a contemporary setting.

Four Freshmen – Feb. 29 & March 1
The Four Freshmen will close out the Entertainment Series. The group has been singing with a harmony that is uniquely their own for 65 years. This tightknit quartet is inspired by the Beach Boy’s Brian Wilson, The Mamas & The Papas, Frankie Valli and the Manhattan Transfer. They have recorded more than 75 albums and 70 top-selling singles and received six Grammy nominations. Freshmen classics such as “Day By Day” and “Blue Word” will take you back to the good old days!

Tickets for any of these performances are $35 through the City of Gulf Shores at www.gulfshoresal.gov/entertainmentseries. For more information, call (251) 968-2425.
