Any season is a good time to explore the beautiful ecosystems of the coastal environment of Gulf Shores, Fort Morgan, Orange Beach and Perdido Key.

A fun and unique way to get close to nature is a guided kayak eco tour at Lake Shelby.

It’s a one-hour paddle headed by a guide who will share details about the ecosystem you’ll see in Gulf State Park.

The kayaker propels the kayak through the water with a double-bladed paddle. Kayaking is a great way to experience the calmness of the water, move through the water quickly or at a slower pace, and see the ecosystem at your fingertips.

Don’t have tons of experience kayaking? No worries. Instruction is provided for beginners, as are life jackets, paddles and kayaks.

This tour is operated by Coastal Segway Adventures from June through October and requires a per-person fee.

Showcased at the 1,500-foot Gulf State Park Fishing and Education Pier in Gulf Shores, Angler Academy operates from June through September and is free to children 5 and under.

Angler Academy is Gulf State Park’s beginner guide to becoming a saltwater fisherman. The experience teaches essential skills, including rules and regulations of saltwater fishing in Alabama, as well as tools and necessities every fisherman needs.

First-time anglers will leave the adventure with the knowledge necessary to fish on their own. They will also practice tying knots, learn about the most commonly used hooks, what type of bait to use, and how to attach the bait to the hooks.

All equipment is provided for Angler Academy!

Take the opportunity to learn more about the coastal ecosystem any time of year. Your two-bedroom vacation rental in Gulf Shores is a great place to serve as your headquarters for a small family. Or, if you’re planning a family reunion, one of Meyer’s houses with five or more bedrooms would be an option.
