Located in Foley just a few miles north of the Gulf Shores Public Beach is GlenLakes Golf Courses. Designed in a “Scottish Links meet affordable resort-style golf” manner, GlenLakes is composed of two distinct courses: Vista Dunes and The Lakes.
Renowned players and architects Bruce Devlin and Robert Von Hagge designed Vista Dunes. This 6,938-yard, par-72 championship course evokes the feeling of Scottish links golf, complete with strategic mounding, extensive bunkering and undulating fairways and greens.
The Lakes course provides an engaging Alabama golf experience for players of all levels. It is a sporty 3,065-yard, par-35, resort-style, nine-hold course featuring generous fairways for all levels of play. There is water on six of the nine holes, which requires players to be strategic and make their shots. Multiple tee positions allow for repeat play at an affordable price.
Golf rates are affordable. Golfers can play 18 holes for less than $50, including cart. Nine-hole rates are even less, and there is a less expensive rate for juniors 17 and under.
The on-site PGA Professional is David Musial, a Callaway Golf staff member since 2008. Musial was the 2009 Dixie Section Golf Professional of the Year and the 1998 Junior Golf Leader of the Year.
Musial provides individual instruction to golfers of all levels, ranging from beginners to pro.
Winter visitors are also welcome, with seasonal rates that include unlimited play packages, Munchie Monday and Thirsty Thursday.
GlenLakes is attracting non-golfers to its courses with a nod to a fun new sports trend—FootGolf. A combination of soccer and golf played with a No. 5 regulation soccer ball and using 21-inch-diameter cups, FootGolf is especially fun because FootGolfers can play at the same time as golfers.
Bring your own ball or rent one for $1. Car rental is only $10, but many FootGolfers prefer to walk the course because of the shorter distances between shots. It takes about the same time to play 18 holes of FootGolf as it does to play nine holes of golf and is a great way to get exercise.
GlenLakes Golf Club is Alabama’s only course accredited by the American FootGolf League.
Bring your friends and enjoy a round of 18 or nine holes of golf or 18 holes of FootGolf next time you stay at a Gulf Shores beach house or condo.
