Hangout Music Festival, the three-day event in Gulf Shores, is absolutely the biggest party on the Gulf Coast all year long, drawing thousands of people to Gulf Shores and Orange Beach rentals. It's a festive time, but event organizers always remember that protecting the beaches - and the natural habitats that they encompass - is a top priority, just as important as having a great time.
The event takes certain precautions to make Hangout Music Festival safe and enjoyable for everyone - for instance, no glass bottles are allowed, and organizers ask that you leave your glowsticks at home. As festive as these party items are for waving in the air when your favorite band is on stage, when partygoers drop them, they can get lost in the sand forever and become toxic waste on the beaches and in our oceans.
There's nothing cool about harming the environment, but these restrictions don't have to hold you back from having fun! Here are a few ways to get festive for this massive three-day party.
Glow paint, not sticks!
Glowsticks are fun, but since they're not allowed, why not choose glow paint instead? You might not want to wear this during the day (when you're splashing in the waves, slathering on sunscreen and slipping down the waterslide), but as long as you keep your admission bracelet on, you can head back to your Gulf Shores or Orange Beach beach house rental after the day's festivities and prepare for the night's events. The shuttle buses run to Orange Beach condos all throughout the day, so it's easy to head home to revamp your look. Pick up some glow-in-the-dark paint and apply stripes and zigzags to your arms and legs, or add some over your makeup so your lips and eyes glow!
Point and shoot right to record your memories
You can't bring any professional photo or video equipment, but small point-and-shoot cameras and cellphones are always allowed. Use these to your advantage during the concert. Set a slow flash to capture the action taking place on-stage, and get some personal shots with your phone so you can share them to Facebook or Instagram and show everyone how much of a blast Hangout Music Festival is! You don't need any fancy video equipment either - random, short videos can be easily cut and blended to make a perfect montage of your festival adventure once you're back at your Orange Beach condo rental.
Make a poster
Want to show your love to the band? Posters are 100 percent allowed at Hangout, so spread your message this way! Choose a neon board and make your letters nice and bold so musicians can see them in the bright Alabama sun. Remember, though - always recycle once the show is over! Hangout has Clean Vibes volunteers looking out for the safety of the beach, but help them out by properly disposing of your poster and any other trash in the right receptacle. Organizers ask that you limit the amount of plastic you bring with you to the beach, and help out when you see some trash that's getting blown away in the gulf breeze.
