With several representatives from Meyer Vacation Rentals in attendance, Foley Sports Tourism unveiled its new Foley Event Center to the public Sept. 28.

The center, which is adjacent to The Park at OWA and 16 multipurpose fields (including a championship field with seating for up to 1,000), features six basketball courts, 12 volleyball courts and 12 pickleball courts.

The center will be able to accommodate events ranging from graduation ceremonies to sports events like gymnastics and volleyball tournaments.

The building also features six flex rooms, three concession/vending areas, locker rooms, a box office, parking for 1,000, removable bleacher seating for 680, a media room overlooking the main floor and a trainers’ room, among other amenities.

“This is not a recreation center, it’s not a civic center, it’s designed specifically for events,” said Recreation Director and Interim Foley Tourism Director David Thompson. “We’re hoping to bring sports teams, moms, dads, brothers, sisters, all in and out and have that for all of Foley. It’s going to impact Gulf Shores and Orange Beach and all of Baldwin County, so this isn’t just going to be a Foley economic impact.”

The first event held in the center was the Bama Bounders Beach Bash gymnastics meet. Thompson said starting Jan. 1, 2018, the center is booked nearly every weekend through June. “We’re very, very excited about our lineup,” he said in a recent news report.
