Gulf Shores boasts plenty of open spaces that are ideal for families to enjoy during their trips to the area. While most visitors are probably excited to spend the bulk of their time on the white sandy beaches along the Gulf Coast, there are a few other expanses that can act as a perfect setting for casual sporting contests, fitness or pure relaxation.
Although accommodations like Gulf Shores vacation rentals typically have enough room for even the largest of travel groups, heading to a local park for some fresh air and fun is a top-notch addition to any trip itinerary.
As the largest city park in Gulf Shores, Sims Park provides plenty of room for recreation. The area features a skate park, tennis courts, soccer and baseball fields, a fitness center and an outdoor pavilion - all in addition to well manicured stretches of open land.
Kids can enjoy their time at the community playground in Sims Park. Designed with the input of some young adventurers, this imaginative area is catered to children and can definitely provide for some afternoon fun in the sun when you need a break from the beach.
Hone your tennis skills
One of the brightest spots in Sims Park is its outdoor tennis courts. With 12 hard courts open to the public, the space is ideal for honing your tennis skills with a few hours of recreational fun.
Visitors who head to this Gulf Shores park can play tennis on high-quality courts that were renovated to update the facilities, creating a better place to learn and play. New nets, windscreens and fencing makes all of the courts better suited to handle the demand of rising tennis stars in the area.
As another added bonus, the tennis courts are adjacent to the George C. Meyer Tennis Center, which features 18 regulation courts that are free and open to the public. There, visitors who have packed their rackets and athletic gear can participate in lessons or simply catch a casual match with another enthusiast.
Great for families
No matter what type of activity you decide to partake in, Sims Park may be the perfect setting. With spots for tennis, soccer, skateboarding, family picnics and other pastimes, the public space can be used for whatever your travel group needs. Although most of your vacation time will likely be spent on the beaches near your Gulf Shores rentals, venturing to a city park for other types of recreation is certainly a worthwhile endeavor.
Sims Park is open seven days a week, from dawn until dusk.
