There are few things that say "summer" more than baseball, and if you are visiting the beaches of Alabama this June, you'll have plenty of opportunity to enjoy America's favorite pastime. The United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA) Global World Series championship games take place in Orange Beach in June and July, and visitors staying in Orange Beach rentals will have easy access to all of the festivities.
The games occur for five days at a time, during which junior baseball and softball teams from around the country battle it out on the diamond at the both the Orange Beach Sportsplex, Gulf Shores Sportsplex as well as venues in nearby Foley. For each series, there are three exciting events. The coaches' meeting occurs each week at the Orange Beach Community Center, and then there is a pin trading event at The Amphitheater at The Wharf. The third event, the Opening Ceremonies, will take place at the Amphitheater as well, directly after pin trading.
If you are traveling with a team, you may want to book five-bedroom beach houses in Orange Beach so you and your players will have easy access to the festivities. There are also three- and four-bedroom beach houses available for families and other adults who are traveling with the team. Other visitors who want to get in on the fun can rent one- to four-bedroom Orange Beach condos. Tickets to this sporting event are $7 daily, or you can buy a tournament pass for $20.
If you aren't traveling to Orange Beach to play in the World Series, you can still play some good old-fashioned baseball. Head to Meyer Park for the afternoon with the family. This park, located just about 10 minutes away from Orange Beach condos, boasts 12 acres and is complete with a baseball diamond, playground equipment, picnic tables and horseshoe pits.
