Support a good cause and immerse yourself in history by attending the Elberta German Sausage Festival on the last Saturday in March.
The festival supports the Elberta Volunteer Fire Department as well as town needs and gives festival-goers the opportunity to learn more about German culture and cuisine.
Of course, the main event is the secret recipe for Elberta’s famous German sausage and topped with sauerkraut if you choose.
Other foods you’ll find in this festival that will feature more than 200 arts and crafts booths include German-style filled cabbage, potato salad, goulash, red bean and rice, burgers and hot dogs, barbecue sandwiches, ice cream, popcorn and peanuts.
The festival is also known for its carnival rides, polka music (and dancing), and contemporary and German music.
Festival organizers said they usually sell about 6,000 pounds of German sausage during the festival and attract an estimated 20,000 visitors.
Can’t make the festival in March? Attend the October festival, also on the last Saturday of the month.
Make the festival part of your spring vacation at the beach and stay in one of our budget-friendly vacation rentals. Or, make it a fishing vacation, and book a condo with its own fishing pier.
