They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. There are lots of great places to start your day off with a healthy meal—and maybe even a treat or two.
A beach vacation is a fantastic time to allow yourself a little indulgence, a time to splurge in ways you might not at home.
BuzzCatz Coffee & Sweets in Orange Beach is a fun place for a healthy breakfast and maybe a sweet treat or two to take back to your beach house or condo.
In fact, BuzzCatz, which is part of the Cosmo’s Restaurant complex on Canal Road in Orange Beach, was noted for having the “Best Breakfast in Alabama,” according to Al Roker and People magazine’s “Food Issue.”
The Today Show featured BuzzCatz’s giant glazed, cream cheese and pecan praline covered cinnamon rolls, but these treats are just the beginning of what you’ll find at this hidden gem of a breakfast spot.
There are the homemade pastries reminiscent of an iced Pop Tart (only with tons more flavor).
There’s also French toast; flap jacks; Belgian waffles; breakfast tortillas; Challah dough filled with fresh scrambled eggs and cheddar cheese; fried potatoes; grits (of course, it's a Southern staple); breakfast sandwiches with Conecuh sausage, bacon or ham; quiche; and breakfast platters. There’s even breakfast sandwiches with the good stuff sandwiched between waffles or, you guessed it, cinnamon rolls.
BuzzCatz features locally roasted coffee, baked goodies such as cupcakes and cookies, and even ice cream.
For lunch, enjoy options like a chicken salad wrap made with roasted and buttermilk fried chicken (courtesy of sister restaurant Luna’s Eat & Drink next door). Quiche is also a popular lunchtime favorite.
Then, between 3 and 4 p.m., if you’re in the area—or make a special trip for it—enjoy “Happy Meower,” where you’ll enjoy $1 off specialty coffees, half-priced cookies and BOGO ice cream scoops.
BuzzCatz was the brainchild of owners Brian and Jodi Harsany, local legends on the restaurant scene on Pleasure Island. The couple also own Cosmo’s Restaurant & Bar, which has been an Orange Beach favorite for 10 years.
Chef Kimberly Asbury is pastry chef and general manager, winner of the John Folse Award of Excellence and 20-year veteran of everything from small bagel shops and pizza places to fine dining Italian restaurants.
Another benefit of dining at BuzzCatz is the porch, outfitted with several tables for outdoor dining. Get a little fresh air with your specialty coffee and cinnamon roll as big as your head!
BuzzCatz is part of a family of restaurants that includes GT’s on the Bay, Cobalt the Restaurant, Luna’s Eat & Drink, and Cosmo’s Restaurant & Bar.
For those who don’t want to leave the solitude of the vacation rental, drop in, grab a variety of items and take them back for everyone to enjoy. In a nutshell, it’s always a good time to drop by this quaint breakfast nook in Orange Beach.
A three-bedroom condo on the beach, with its own private balcony, is the perfect spot to enjoy your made-from-scratch treats from BuzzCatz.
