Shopping on Black Friday is an annual tradition that brings with it some terrific seasonal discounts and deals.
If you are enjoying a Thanksgiving beach vacation, you’ll find Black Friday on the Alabama Gulf Coast is like a coastal treasure hunt, said Sarah Kuzma, operations specialist for Meyer Vacation Rentals, a longtime resident of the area.
“I think of Black Friday sales as treasure hunting. And what better location to find treasure than on the Gulf Coast? The concentration of stores in Gulf Shores, Orange Beach and Foley lends itself to convenience, since everywhere I want to go is within an eight-mile radius of the beach,” Sarah said.
Tanger Outlets – Foley
Located on Hwy. 59 in Foley, the Tanger Outlets mall is definitely on the locals’ radar when it comes to Black Friday shopping, Sarah said.
“Tanger Outlets in Foley is my primary hunting grounds for huge bargains at more than 120 stores. With list in hand, I hit the stores as soon as they open, which is usually Thanksgiving night, and use the shuttle to move from one area of the complex to another.”
Open Thanksgiving Day from 6 p.m. to midnight and Black Friday from midnight to 10 p.m., some of the Tanger hotspots include Michael Kors, Rue21, T.J. Maxx, Coach, Polo Ralph Lauren Factory Store, White House Black Market, Under Armour, Kate Spade New York, Old Navy, Gap Outlet, Justice and more.
Pelican Place at Craft Farms – Gulf Shores
Heading south on Ala. Hwy. 59 a few miles will bring you to Pelican Place at Craft Farms, where shoppers will find a Target store among other shops.
“Pelican Place at Craft Farms is my next stop because it’s a special blend of department stores, such as Target, and boutiques that are unique to the coast,” Sarah said.
Shops at Pelican Place include Bed, Bath & Beyond, Books-A-Million and other local and national retailers. A Cobb Theater and several restaurants are on site if you find you need a break from the shopping action.
The Wharf – Orange Beach
Speaking of taking a break, after browsing Pelican Place, you might want to make your next stop The Wharf. Located along the waterfront, The Wharf is a great place to refresh and recharge—and continue your quest for Black Friday deals.
“The largest variety of sale items specific to a coastal lifestyle can be found at shops along the waterfront at The Wharf,” Sarah said. “Once my shopping is done, I can relax, indulge in a refreshing beverage, and dine on seafood while overlooking the marina and watching boats float by on the Intracoastal Waterway.”
Specialty shops at The Wharf include Bungalows, Ocean Eddie’s Sand Dollar Lifestyles, Seaside Shoes, Shade, Tervis Tumblers and more. There’s even Sharky’s Family Adventure Park and a Ferris wheel on site to let the kids (or spouse) blow off some steam. If you’re looking for a brief respite, Carmike Cinemas plays the hottest movies of the day.
“There’s definitely nothing negative about a shopping spree on the coast, especially a Black Friday adventure,” Sarah said.
