The 12th Annual Hangout Oyster Cook-Off, Craft Spirits & Beer Weekend will be held Nov. 1 and 2, 2019, right in front of the iconic Hangout Restaurant at the Gulf Shores Public Beach.
More than 100,000 oysters will be served during the event, including thousands of Alabama oysters along with oysters from all over the continent in the North American Raw Oyster Showcase.
Celebrity chefs Michael Symon and Chris Lilly will headline this year’s festival, along with Food Network and Bravo chefs along with famous barbecue pitmasters.
One of the most exciting parts of the cook-off event is the sample oyster tastings you can do at booths hosted by numerous local and regional restaurants. From raw to Rockefeller and everything in between, chefs prepare their specialties and ask patrons to cast a vote for them.
There’s also a hands-on demo cooking stage, where you can follow along and prepare simple yet delicious meals as instructed by celebrity chefs. This activity is included in the admission!
Do you enjoy grilling on a Big Green Egg, or even been curious to know how these grills work? This year’s cook-off includes a tailgating experience where attendees can taste foods prepared on these special grills.
The festival officially kicks off on Friday night with a tasting event unlike any other. Sample everything from Bourbon, tequila and rum to local and regional craft beers. Craft Beer Village will also include gourmet-grilled food, including burgers and dogs.
Bring your appetite for good food and great football this weekend. Whether you dine at the festival or a local seafood restaurant or choose to prepare a meal in your fully equipped vacation rental kitchen, you’ll have lots of options to enjoy the delicacies of the Gulf. And, with football games playing on TVs throughout the festival grounds, there’s no need to miss any of your favorite games as you browse the booths and taste the oysters and spirits. Stop into any one of the numerous booths on site for your college football fix.
This time of year is perfect for spending a little extra time on a Gulf Coast golf course. Cooler temperatures with typically bright, sun-filled days make hitting the greens a fun and comfortable option. Or, get out on the Gulf or stay inshore by booking a fishing excursion for a few hours, half day, full day or longer.
Choose a condo with its own private fishing pier for your vacation. A Gulf-front condo anywhere along the 38-mile length of beach stretching from Fort Morgan in the west to Perdido Key in the east would be a delightful spot to serve as your cook-off headquarters.
