In Orange Beach, Santa rides a yacht
Even Santa Claus needs a vacation from time to time, and it comes as no surprise that he's picked Orange Beach, Alabama as the perfect place to rest between making a list and checking it twice. The annual "Sail With Santa" event takes place on the Wild Hearts sailing yacht - a beautiful 53-foot catamaran. This adventure is a great way for you to both celebrate the holidays and give back to the community, as proceeds from the charter service will benefit the Salvation Army.
"During this time of year, our ownership and staff wanted to find a special way to give back to our community, yet provide a memorable and entertaining event," said Debbie Sims, the public relations director of Perdido Beach Services.
Start being nice now
As you sail with Santa, your kids will have the chance to request exactly what they want for Christmas, so be sure to keep your ears open for what they'll want to open come the morning of December 25. After you snap a photo of your little one on Santa's lap, you can head over to the refreshments station where elves will be ready to share warm cider, hot chocolate and eggnog.
One way you can show Santa that you and your kids have been particularly nice this year is if you bring some extra money to donate to a great cause. The Salvation Army takes care of millions of people in need across the country, and during the holidays, the need is even greater. Get into the true spirit of Christmas and be your own version of Santa Claus.
Get there early, stay late
The yachting service recommends that you arrive at the private marina located along Perdido Beach Boulevard at least half an hour before the ship sets sail. You're more than welcome to bring a cooler with extra bites to eat if you think you'll get hungry while you're aboard - and feel free to share some baked goods with other passengers. Since this sailing adventure only happens on certain days in December, be sure to call ahead (251-981-6700) to make your reservations.
