Highlighting Alabama's delectable seafood
Tens of thousands of people flock to the Gulf Coast of Alabama just for the opportunity to savor fresh seafood. While you and your family or friends stay at a Gulf Shores rental, you can enjoy the serene beaches every day and dine on delicious seafood every meal. Restaurants are located throughout the region, whether you're staying in Orange Beach, Fort Morgan, Gulf Shores or Perdido Key - all you have to do is stop in to find a new treat fresh from the Gulf.
If that's not enough to convince you, then perhaps the words of Robert Bentley, the governor of Alabama, will suffice:
"Alabama seafood is second to none," said Bentley. "Whether it's fish, shrimp, crab or oysters, if you want good, fresh seafood, we have it here in Alabama. . . . Choosing seafood from the Alabama coast means you're choosing to support Alabama fishermen, tourism and other important industries in our state."
Throughout the year, you can expect to feast on Alabama seafood. You may even be able to catch a popular food-related event that will open your taste buds to new wonders.
Alabama Restaurant Week
Taking place once a year, Alabama Restaurant Week highlights all of the seafood eateries across the state where you can eat your fill of crustaceans and fish.
Big Fish Restaurant, Cobalt, and Cosmo's Restaurant & Bar of Orange Beach, as well as Gulf Shores'
LuLu's, King Neptune and The Hangout were only
a few of the popular establishments that participated
in this year's event.
Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo
As one of the few events where you can say you caught a massive tuna, the Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo attracts visitors from far and wide to partake in a heart-pumping event. Anglers gather around Dauphin Island for what the Guinness Book of World Records calls the largest fishing tournament in the world. The goal is to catch the biggest creatures of the gulf, which will in turn catch you the biggest cash prize.
Even if you're not in town during a local fishing or dining event, you can just as easily purchase or fish for your own fresh catch. Cook it up to your liking at your beach house or condo rental or take it to one of the restaurants that will be happy to prepare it for you.
