Celebrate the Fourth of July in Gulf Shores
Looking for a sweet summertime getaway? There's no better way to celebrate the Fourth of July than spending the day on the beach, which is why planning a family vacation to Gulf Shores is a perfect idea for those looking to get away during this patriotic holiday. Not only can you rock your red, white and blue bathing suit on the beach in celebration of the United States and our liberty and justice for all, but there are a number of other events and festivities that will keep the whole family occupied. Best of all, most of them are located conveniently nearby Gulf Shores rentals!
Head to a parade
There are parades across America on the Fourth of July, but those along the Gulf Coast are some of the best. If you are renting five-bedroom Gulf Shores beach houses, you might want to bring the family to a nearby park for parades and other festivities. In 2012, the city hosted "A Family Day in America Stars and Stripes Celebration" in the Sims Park Pavilion at the Bodenhamer Recreation Center. Families enjoyed a parade around the park, an obstacle course, games, music and other entertainment at this festival.
Party on the beach and piers
The location of Gulf Shores on the Gulf of Mexico means there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy Fourth of July festivities with fantastic views and a refreshing ocean breeze. Gather all along the beachfront to see a variety of spectacular fireworks launched from the Gulf State Park Pier once dusk falls. One local radio station broadcasts a music program that coordinates with the show, guaranteeing a magical evening. Bring your friends and family to spend the day relaxing on the beach during the day, and then stay for fireworks at night.
Race for patriotism
Looking to have an active July Fourth? Flora-Bama, located near Perdido Key and Gulf Shores condos, hosts the July 4 Shark Adventure Run. Unlike a traditional running event, this race involves 2 miles of running on the road and 2.5 miles on the beach. There, "shark people" will be scattered around, trying to take the "bait," or flags, off the belts of the runners. The "sharks" are not able to touch you, but if they get all three flags off your belt, you will not be eligible for any prizes at the end of the race. So, make sure you pack your best running shoes and practice being quick on your feet to succeed in this race. Of course, it's all in good fun, so definitely make sure you bring your good attitude with you!
After the race, you can spend the day at Flora-Bama, where there's sure to be plenty of festivities like live music, dancing and food.
If you are renting Gulf Shores beach houses, you'll have a front row seat to plenty of Fourth of July fun right outside your doorstep. Hang out on the beach, host a barbecue on your deck or just relax with your loved ones outside in the Gulf Coast sunshine.
