Is there someone in your family who wants to be a movie or stage star someday? Are the performing arts an important part of your life? Whatever the case, the South Baldwin Community Theatre is the perfect place to take your little actor or actress to watch a unique play sometimes written by and always starring those who call the Gulf Coast of Alabama their home. Whether you're staying in a Gulf Shores, Fort Morgan, Orange Beach or Perdido Key vacation condo or beach house, you're only a short drive from being dazzled by an amazing performance.
A sampling of plays
With a new season comes a new collection of plays at the South Baldwin Community Theatre. No matter when you're in town, there will surely be a performance fit for your entire family.
Broadway musicals are always a big hit here, where you can enjoy shows such as Once Upon a Mattress based on the unforgettable book The Princess and the Pea. The music and lyrics are by the famous Rodgers and Hammerstein duo, who also wrote timeless classics including Oklahoma!, The King and I and The Sound of Music. Your kids will be totally entranced as they watch their favorite storybook characters and new stories come to life on stage.
Non-musical shows are just as entertaining. As an example, Waiting Rooms was written by local playwright Laura Sansing Pfizenmayer. Set in the South, this production follows the lives of three siblings as they deal with the sickness and eventual passing of their mother, Mama Alma. This comedy is for slightly more mature audiences, but your kids can still enjoy the humorous scenes as much as you.
There is nothing like a night at the theatre to inspire creativity. Before you know it, you'll be singing songs and putting on impromptu plays with your kids in your comfortable lodgings along the Alabama-Florida Gulf Coast.
